In 2008, amidst the aftermath of the Post Election Violence a seed of compassion was planted in our hearts. As the CEO of Steda Relief Kenya, Stevenson Maranga, I witnessed the devastating effects of the violence, which left many children orphaned and families shattered. Driven by a deep sense of responsibility, we started our humble mission by taking in the first four orphaned children from the same family, who had lost their parents tragically. Our journey began in Kisii, where we provided a safe haven and loving Christian care for these children.
Expanding to Migori County: A New Chapter of Growth
In 2014, we embarked on a new chapter in Migori County, Isebania, where we found a larger space that could accommodate more children in need. We have come a long way since those early days. Currently, we are proud to support and educate approximately 375 children, including those from the Kakuma Refugee Camp. Our dedicated team of 26 teachers and 12 staff members work tirelessly to provide quality education, loving care, and spiritual guidance to these precious young lives.
Challenges: Building a Strong Foundation for the Future
While our journey has been marked with moments of joy and transformation, we have also faced significant challenges along the way. One of our primary challenges is sustaining the financial stability required to pay our dedicated teachers and staff members, ensuring they can continue their invaluable work. Additionally, as our student population continues to grow, we face the urgent need to expand our infrastructure, particularly in terms of classrooms, beds, bedding, and other resources to provide a conducive learning environment. These challenges serve as opportunities for us to strengthen our foundation, rallying the support of compassionate individuals and organizations who share our vision of empowering these children for a brighter future.
Vision for the Future: Lighting the Path to Success
Looking ahead, our vision is to become a beacon of hope and empowerment for even more orphaned and vulnerable children in Kenya. We aspire to create a learning environment that fosters academic excellence, personal growth, and spiritual nourishment. With the support of our sponsors, well-wishers, and partners, we aim to construct permanent classrooms and expand our facilities, ensuring every child receives the quality education they deserve. By investing in their futures, we believe these children can break free from the cycle of poverty and become agents of positive change within their communities.
